About Us

Mission and Philosophy

The mission of Selwyn Presbyterian Child Development Center is to provide developmentally appropriate, high-quality early care and education in a caring Christian environment. We serve church membership and surrounding community children six weeks to six years of age. At Selwyn CDC, we strive to develop a partnership with the family by providing parenting educational opportunities and open communication to encourage parent participation in our program. We provide a safe and happy place, where all races, genders, creeds and abilities are recognized, valued and celebrated while pledging to nurture all children committed to our care in a manner reflecting God’s love.

Statement of Philosophy & major goals of our program:

1) To create and maintain an environment for children that is safe, healthy and developmentally appropriate.

2) To serve as a local outreach of the Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church to families and children in our care, and to maintain a healthy partnership in this co-ministry.

3) To provide nurture, education and fellowship to the children, parents and staff of our Center.

4) To establish a classroom environment that is child-directed rather than teacher-directed in order to promote the practice of independent thinking skills.

5) To build a classroom structure of discipline based on limits and choices that foster inner direction of children.

5-Star Commitment to Quality

As a NC 5-Star licensed facility, we strive to provide the highest quality care and education to the children and families in our program. Our 5 Star rating through the North Carolina Division of Child Development and Early Education (NCDCEE) is determined from scoring in three unique categories, including staff education, program standards, and options for quality points.

At Selwyn CDC, we pride ourselves on our small classroom ratios that ensure the needs of the children are always met.
